The Playstation 3 was recently released in the UK and a few months before in Japan and the US. Already there are rumours of the next version named the Playstation 4 becoming available in just 18 months. Considering the PS1 to PS2 gap was about 6 years and the PS2 to PS3 gap was maybe 8 years, I wonder if the rumours of the PS4 being just 18 months away could be true. It makes me think that they were talking of a PS3 version 2 to be honest. Forums are already set up for the Playstation 4 although very quiet to be honest

Ken Kutaragi, the ‘Father of PlayStation’, has revealed that he already has a vision for PlayStation 4, 5 and even 6 - despite having announced his imminent retirement, as we reported earlier. Speaking to the EE Times Kutaragi said that previously he had been unable to talk about “the next step” as PS3 had not launched globally. “We’ve introduced PS3 in Europe, so now I can openly talk about” future plans, he continued.
Ken Kutaragi announced his retirement last week, but it looks like the “Father of the PlayStation” will still have a bright future with Sony.
According to Sony insiders the future next-gen console is already in the works, and could be hitting stores in less than 18 months.The PS4 will have the same chipset as the PS3, but will differ in the drive bay and attachment area. It will also include an extensive software suite for managing content streamed to a TV or Hi Fi source. Sony is hoping that these features, along with improving the overall output experience, will help transform the Playstation 4 into true home entertainment center, eliminating the need for a media center.
